- The changes to the Desktop Sysmon Monitor product since
- its last release (IRIX 6.2) are:
-
- +o The notification architecture has been changed.
- syslogd passes messages to sysmonpp which forwards
- messages of interest to the Indigo Magic Desktop
- notification program imdmonitor. Imdmonitor then
- passes control back to the system monitor's
- notification programs which alert the user by raising a
- notifier on the desktop. Running more than one
- instance of imdmonitor at a time is not offically
- supported, however you can receive notification on a
- remote machine (for ex: an X-terminal) by setting your
- DISPLAY to the remote display and running the
- imdmonitor program by hand. As more than one
- imdmonitor should not be running at once, you will need
- to comment it out of the desktop startup file
- /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xsession.dt which will disable
- notification for the person on the console. Note: This
- configuration is -not- supported but this tip is
- provided in the hope that it will be useful.
-
- +o The silence feature has been added to the Alert
- dialogs. If the "silence" button is pressed, all
- future Alerts will be discarded until the user logs in
- again, or turns them back on by going to the Toolchest
- and selecting "Desktop" then "Customize" then "System
- Alerts" then turning on the "Enable" toggle button.
-
- +o By default if a message has been seen in the last 30
- minutes then sysmon will not notify for this same
- message again. This prevents message floods from
- annoying the user.
-
- +o Advanced users may want to make system-wide changes by
- editing the notifier.config file. See the man page for
- this file.
